The Tale of Honest Harry: Learning the Value of Integrity
Once upon a time, in a small village nestled between rolling hills and lush forests, there lived a boy named Harry. Harry was known for his honesty and integrity. He was always truthful, even when it was hard, and he never cheated or took what didn’t belong to him.
One sunny Sunday morning, Harry was on his way to Sunday School. He walked through the village, greeting neighbors and friends along the way. As he approached the church, he noticed something shiny on the ground. It was a coin! Harry picked it up and examined it. It was a shiny gold coin, and Harry’s eyes widened with excitement.
But then, Harry remembered the lessons he had learned in Sunday School about honesty and integrity. He knew that if he kept the coin without trying to find its owner, he would be doing the wrong thing. So, instead of putting the coin in his pocket, Harry decided to ask around to see if anyone had lost it.
Harry went to his teacher, Miss Sarah, and told her about the coin he found. Miss Sarah smiled proudly at Harry and praised him for his honesty. She suggested they ask if anyone in the Sunday School class had lost a coin. So, Harry stood in front of the class and asked if anyone had lost a shiny gold coin.
A little girl named Emily raised her hand. “That’s mine!” she exclaimed. “I dropped it on my way to Sunday School.”
Harry smiled and handed the coin to Emily. She thanked him and gave him a big hug. Miss Sarah praised Harry once again for his integrity and honesty. She reminded the class of a verse from the Bible that says:
“Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out.” – Proverbs 10:9 (NIV)
Miss Sarah explained that integrity means doing the right thing even when no one is watching. She told the class that God wants us to be honest and truthful in everything we do, just like Harry.
From that day on, Harry became known as Honest Harry throughout the village. He continued to live with integrity, always choosing to do what was right. And whenever he faced a difficult decision, he remembered the lessons he learned in Sunday School and the value of honesty and integrity.
And so, the tale of Honest Harry taught the children of the village the importance of integrity and the joy that comes from doing what is right in the eyes of God.
