Introduction: Understanding Lust
Lust is a powerful and dangerous desire that seeks to gratify the flesh in ways that go against God’s design. In biblical terms, lust is often associated with intense sexual desire, but it can also refer to any kind of coveting or excessive craving for something that is not in alignment with God’s will.
Jesus speaks directly about lust in Matthew 5:28: “But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Lust is not just about outward actions but involves the heart and mind. Proverbs 4:23 also warns us to guard our hearts, “for everything you do flows from it.” What we consume—whether through media, relationships, or conversations—shapes our inner life. If we fill our hearts and minds with things that glorify God, we will naturally be inclined to live according to His will.
