10 Steps to Leave a Legacy of Faith

A Biblical Guide to Impacting Eternity

Leaving a legacy of faith isn’t merely about material possessions or a strong reputation. It’s about eternally impacting lives, inspiring others to follow Christ, and leaving a lasting imprint on the kingdom of God. Here’s a 10-step biblical guide to help you leave a legacy of faith:

1. Know God Personally:

  • Spend time with Him daily: “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10).
  • Develop a deep relationship with Him: “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you” (James 4:8).
  • Allow Him to transform you: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2).

2. Love God Supremely:

  • Prioritize Him above all else: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” (Matthew 22:37).
  • Worship Him wholeheartedly: “Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness” (Psalm 29:2).
  • Obey His commands: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind” (Luke 10:27).

3. Love Others Selflessly:

  • Love your neighbor as yourself: “Love your neighbor as yourself” (Mark 12:31).
  • Forgive freely: “Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors” (Matthew 6:12).
  • Serve others humbly: “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others” (Philippians 2:4).

4. Live a Life of Integrity:

  • Be honest and truthful: “Let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No’” (Matthew 5:37).
  • Be a person of character: “Therefore, be imitators of God, as dearly loved children” (Ephesians 5:1).
  • Live a blameless life: “Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity” (1 Timothy 4:12).

5. Share Your Faith Boldly:

  • Be a witness for Christ: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19).
  • Evangelize effectively: “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have” (1 Peter 3:15).
  • Disciple others: “What you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also” (2 Timothy 2:2).

6. Build Strong Relationships:

  • Nurture relationships with other believers: “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds” (Hebrews 10:24).
  • Serve in your local church: “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms” (1 Peter 4:10).
  • Support Christian ministries: “Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously” (2 Corinthians 9:6).

7. Leave a Written Legacy:

  • Keep a journal: “Write down the revelation, and send letters to the seven churches in Asia” (Revelation 1:11).
  • Write letters of encouragement: “Write often to encourage one another” (Hebrews 10:25).
  • Leave a will: “Set your affairs in order” (2 Kings 20:1).

8. Teach Your Children Faithfully:

  • Instruct them in the Word of God: “These commandments that I give you today are to be on your heart. Impress them on your children” (Deuteronomy 6:6-7).
  • Pray with them regularly: “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful” (Colossians 4:2).
  • Set a godly example: “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6).

9. Prepare for Eternity:

  • Live a life focused on eternity: “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things” (Colossians 3:2).
  • Share the gospel with others: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19).
  • Trust in God’s promises: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5).

10. Leave a Lasting Impact:

  • Live a life of significance: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters” (Colossians 3:23).
  • Inspire others to follow Christ: “Be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity” (1 Timothy 4:12).
  • Trust God’s plan: “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will do it” (Psalm 37:5).

By following these biblical principles, you can leave a legacy of faith that will inspire generations to come. Remember, it’s not about the quantity of years you live, but the quality of life you live for Christ.
